Election day.
I’ve avoided talking about politics for the better part of 2016 because this election cycle has been exhausting. I feel like it’s been going on forever (and it has). Today, here in the United States, we’re finally going to put this behind us and elect our next president. It’s a touchy subject that’s prone to splitting up friendships, putting a strain on families, and generally making everyone miserable.
But I’m going to vote today.
Because I’m an idealist who sincerely believes that every vote counts. If things don’t go the way I want them to, at least I tried to push things in what I believe are the right direction.
Because apathy is a dangerous state of mind and nothing will ever change if you do not put in the effort to create the change you want to see.
Because I believe in love and compassion, and I want to actively fight the hateful political rhetoric that has been so dominant in 2016.
Because despite its many problems and flaws, I love my country and I will participate in its progress.
If you live in the United States, get out and vote today.
I have a feeling Thursday’s blog is going to be an interesting one.
