The Patreon push!
Now that Issue 18 has come to a close it’s time for our regularly-scheduled break between chapters. We usually fill these two weeks of updates with lore goodies relating to the story and/or the people of the Millennium Federation, but every so often we need to do the equivalent of running in-house ads. In this case, we’ll be promoting our Star Power Patreon campaign because we’ve made some changes to the reward tiers and self-promotion is part of the game when you’re self-publishing your work.
This Patreon push comes on the heels of two travel-heavy weekends for me, where I had to leave my wife and son to travel to two consecutive conventions. The first weekend included driving time that totaled twenty hours on the road, which is wearisome to say the least. This past weekend I was on a flight that was so badly delayed I had no choice but to reschedule and return home early the following morning. In the past, these were risks that were easy to deal with. Now that I’m a dad, and the parent who watches our son all day, these travel circumstances have become more complicated. Ten hours on the road does not put me in a patient frame-of-mind to watch a toddler in the morning after getting home only 3-4 hours earlier that same morning. Flight delays or cancellations further complicate things, since my wife has a demanding day job and cannot always take the time off to cover for me when I’m forced to reschedule flights. Travel can be complicated, and parenthood only further complicates things.
Conventions are a much different scene than when we began our lives as webcomickers, but I’ll speak more on that for this Thursday’s blog entry.
Self-promotion and travel are complicated aspects of this business, but a boost to our Patreon campaign will make things decidedly easier and give you, our amazing readers, more content to sink your teeth in to. So please bear with us while we play the self-promotion side-quest of this webcomic game. It’s more necessary for the main questline than the tutorial makes it out to be.
