Old School or Outdated?
Garth and I are very happy that our announcement to change the update schedule from Monday-Wednesday-Friday to only Monday-Wednesday was largely met with positive, encouraging responses. Garth was honest in his struggles with burnout and the steps needed to help him recover, and the understanding shown by you, our wonderful readers, was tremendous. We love making STAR POWER for you, and you reward us with your incredible support.
When STAR POWER was still in the planning stages, it was my idea to do a Mon-Wed-Fri update schedule. Garth’s original idea was to only update two days per week, and I didn’t feel it was a good choice. Even though we were both veterans in the webcomics world, we were still launching a new comic and I thought it would be best to give folks as much content as possible, as frequently as we could manage. That approach stemmed from my time doing Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, where I was updating 5-7 days per week. I prided myself on my “old school” frequency of comic output, and thought a similar approach would be best for STAR POWER. And, for a while, it was!
Everything changes, however. I had to scale back my update schedule from seven days to five days per week, to also recover from burnout. Garth is doing the same, and it really is the healthiest choice, for him and for the comic. My “old school” approach may be more outdated than old-fashioned, and perhaps it always was. A high frequency of artistic output can be advantageous, but it’s not always the smartest idea. You folks understand that, and were quick to voice your support for our decision.
Old ways are replaced by new methods for a reason, and clinging to outdated things because it’s the only thing you’re familiar with will rob you of new experiences.
