Happy Thanksgiving to Everyone, and Happy Birthday to my Son.
Happy Thanksgiving to those of you who celebrate it! This is one of my favorite holidays. It’s a simple celebration of thanks, and the only obligation is to eat a lot of food. There are no gifts to buy, no holiday music to enjoy and/or endure, no nothing. Just food and company. I’m lucky enough that I get to enjoy both on this holiday, and if you know someone who isn’t as fortunate as you today, maybe extend an invitation to your table. It could mean the world to them.
Happy birthday to my son! He’s five years old today. FIVE! It’s hard to believe it was five years ago that my wife and I came home from Thanksgiving dinner to relax, only to have her tell me she thought it was time for the baby to arrive. Her instincts were right, and several hours later our boy was born.
Five years. I’ve been someone’s dad for five years. I’ve been helping to raise a human from scratch for half a decade. I like to think his sunny disposition, cheerful laugh, and eagerness to be friends with everyone is because of me rather than despite me, and if that’s not true then I’m just going to lie to myself this holiday weekend.
I hope you folks have a great day, even if you don’t celebrate Thanksgiving. Treat yourself to a cake. My boy’s going to be stuffing his face with some tonight.
