My turn for a vacation!

I said in Tuesday’s blog that my wife has been gone on a much-deserved vacation with her extended family, while I’ve been home with our son because his summer preschool program has been a big help for him.  It’s been a long week of solo parenthood.  I don’t know how single parents do this every single week of every single year.  They’re made of stronger stuff than I am.  But I also said I haven’t had a vacation of my own this summer, and wondered if I would get one at all.

Spoiler alert!  I’m going on a small break this weekend and early into next week!

My wife and I are going with Garth on a camping trip of sorts.  I’d tell you where we’re going, but my wife doesn’t always like it when I tell the internet where we’ll be.  So I’ll be vague and say that the three of us are joining lots of other people at a big nerdy campsite in the middle of the woods.  It will be nice to get away from my responsibilities for a while, and I’m sure my son will be thrilled to spend a few quality days with Grandma and Grandpa while we’re gone.

I didn’t take a summer break last year because my beloved cat Rascal passed away of a heart disease, and I was so shaken up by the swiftness of her passing that I didn’t want to leave our other two cats alone.  I got a week-long “staycation” at home while my wife and son went on the scheduled trip, but that didn’t really count.  I spent that week thoroughly cleaning the house, missing my family, and mourning my furry friend.

There will be no blog next Tuesday because we’ll be traveling, and we don’t foresee any interruptions for the posting of new pages.

This will be nice.  A much-needed recharge of my own batteries.  I’ll either have some great stories to tell for next Thursday’s blog or I’ll have nothing to report, and both of those outcomes will make for a satisfying summer break.
