Off To NYCC.

Garth and I will be representing STAR POWER at New York Comic Con for the first time this weekend.  It’s a four-day show, from Thursday to Sunday, and attendance is projected to be bonkers.  This is a show where “the eyes of the industry” are watching, so I confess that I’m feeling a little nervous going in to NYCC.

I’m not sure why I’m nervous.  I’ve done big, crowded shows before.  I’ve even exhibited in New York City before.  I have friends and family in New York, and I’ll even have the luxury of staying at the house I grew up in rather than cramming in to an overpriced hotel room.  Hell, my mother has offered to provide us with breakfast and dinner, and my father has offered to help us set up!  Everything about the circumstances surrounding NYCC should have me feeling more comfortable than ever!

I think it’s the idea of New York Comic Con that has me feeling pre-show butterflies.  It’s one of the shows to exhibit your comic at, and the potential to be “noticed” is there.  You know the dream: an executive with a big cigar strolls up to our table and says “Boys, you got something special here!  Sign here and we’ll get you one of those big budget superhero movies!”  Not that that will ever happen.  They don’t even allow smoking indoors.  But with all the big-name companies with big-name creators there… you never know.

The weekend will most likely be crazy and exciting, and on the off-chance I get to wander away from our table I’ll see lots of creators I haven’t seen in many months.  With luck, some friends and family will come visit and that will make me feel nice.  Most likely of all, I’ll meet lots of great attendees and get to nerd out about comics in an environment full of my fellow comic book geeks.

But if any of you happen to see a movie executive with a big cigar wandering the show floor, send them our way.
