Psi Cop and Lady Psi Cop.

Let me tell you all a little story about the origin of Lady Psi Cop.

Psi Cop is modeled after my brother, John, who earned himself an appearance in the comic when he supported our Book 3 Kickstarter last year.  When I wrote the first Psi Cop segment, I pitched to Garth the idea that his girlfriend be modeled after my brother’s wife, Nicole.  It didn’t happen.

At some family gathering after the first Psi Cop page was posted, I told Nicole that the original idea was to have her be the damsel in distress that Psi Cop saves.  Her response to me was, “What?  No!  I don’t want to be the damsel in distress.  I think it would be better if I saved him!”

And so the idea for Lady Psi Cop was planted.

Until Nicole had said that, Psi Cop was going to be a one-time gag.  Now I had a goal.  Now I had something to build towards.  And so Psi Cop went from being a one-off joke to a running gag in this storyline.  We think it worked, even if it was more “McBane” from The Simpsons than “The Black Freighter” from Watchmen.  And I (hopefully) scored some brother-in-law points, too.

The lesson here is that you have to watch what you say around me, because I may turn what is likely a throwaway remark into comic book canon.
