Stories for STAR POWER are written with a strict set of rules in mind. Each story is five chapters (Issues) long, and each chapter is 24 pages. I work with these restrictions to keep my writing brief and to edit myself. With such a hard limit on chapter and story lengths, I keep myself from letting the story wander and possibly losing focus. It’s also a great exercise for me. For eleven years I could make the stories in Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire as long or as short as I wanted. Changing the way you approach a creative endeavor can seriously work neglected brain muscles, and you can discover strengths you never knew you had.
Anyway, if you’ve been keeping count of this latest chapter’s pages, you’ll notice we went over the 24 page limit yesterday. This final chapter of The Mystery of the Zel Gux Dynasty will be a 30-page Issue so we can have a proper wrap-up/epilogue to this long journey. Breaking the page and chapter limit for a story is not something we’re going to do often, or perhaps ever again, but this Issue is a milestone in the overall arc we have planned for STAR POWER so we wanted to make it feel special and give it enough time to properly conclude.
When this storyline concludes we’ll be taking a three week break between Issues as opposed to the usual two week break. We’ll be posting Millennium Federation Race Profiles for some of the Kioleth system natives, for those interested in where the Mapotans developed their love of selfies and other trivia.
