Some notes.
Danica’s father shared some very wise words with her on Monday’s page. His “look for the helpers” advice was taken word-for-word from the incomparable Fred Rogers of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood fame. We credited him properly on our Facebook page and Twitter feed (although I may have failed to do so on the Star Power Twitter, so I made up for it on my personal Twitter), but hadn’t done so “officially” here on the site. I meant to mention this for Tuesday’s blog entry, but my cat’s heart condition was the center of my attention and intercepted the much-needed crediting. So consider this our official thanks to Fred Rogers for that beautiful insight that, in our setting, carried on through the years and out into the stars with humanity’s future.
It’s not the first time we’ve borrowed from existing material. Way back at the conclusion of our very first Issue, Dr. Brightman gave Danica a some encouragement that was very similar to words spoken by Neil deGrasse Tyson. Back in The Search for Black Hole Bill, Kaylo made a joke that was a slightly modified version of a Tim Conway gag from The Carol Burnett Show.
Why don’t we put credit on the pages themselves? The reason is twofold: First, those pages were posted with our old site design, where we had creator commentary beneath each new page. We could give credit where it was due there instead of cluttering up the page itself. Second, it would make the page look a little more cluttered than it has to be. Text, even small text at the very bottom of the page, looks out-of-place and makes for an ugly, hard-to-read footnote. So with the new site design and the removal of our creator commentary, we give credit everywhere else.
Garth and I are many things, but we’re not thieves.
