A farewell to a rollercoaster year.
2013 was not a subtle year for anyone I know. It was not one of those years that, when you looked back on it, you shrugged and went “eh.” From the people I’ve spoken to, 2013 was either amazing or horrible. It was a year of great highs and lows, personally, spiritually, or financially, and it was no different for yours truly. Yet for all its ups and downs, I’m going to remember 2013 with fondness.
I chose to end my previous webcomic, Dominic Deegan: Oracle for Hire, and with that decision came some of those aforementioned highs and lows. But in the long run, I’m happy to have given my eleven-year run a proper conclusion, and in so doing began this amazing partnership with Garth. The launch of Star Power has been one of the great highs of 2013. Not only am I rejuvenated by an entirely new project, but it’s brought me closer to Garth than ever. We’ve been friends for years, but now I get to call him my partner, and that is a real treat.
2013 was a year I dedicated to practicing my amateur photography. Through my involvement with The Slaughterhouse Sweethearts, a local burlesque troupe, I was privileged to photograph some of the most unique and talented performers in the Boston area. The time I spent with them has not only been inspirational, but it also blossomed into new friendships.
I could spend time talking about the various downs I experienced over this year, but there’s enough negativity on the internet and I always prefer to focus on the positive. So I choose to look back on 2013 with great happiness, and hope that 2014 is equally memorable.
