I’m Seriously In Love With Mortal Kombat 11.
As the title of today’s blog clearly states, I’m seriously in love with Mortal Kombat 11. I’ve spoken numerous times about my long-term relationship with the Mortal Kombat games, and my excitement for this one was pretty high. Mortal Kombat X was amazing, so it had a lot to live up to. In my opinion, it far surpassed expectations and I’m loving this latest entry in the series.
So, without spoiling the Story mode or gushing too much about a gory fighting game, here are several of my brief thoughts on why I love this latest Mortal Kombat game:
Kotal Kahn is the character I wanted him to be in MKX. I feel like they were kinda-sorta figuring this newcomer out in the last game, and finally figured him out for MK11. From his awesome design to his character arc in Story mode, Kotal Kahn is my hands-down favorite character. He and Jade are the couple I didn’t know I needed.
Everyone looks amazing. The character designs are top-notch and everyone seems so alive (or grotesquely dead) in MK11.
I unashamedly love the Mortal Kombat movie from the early 90s, so that they’re using the voice and likeness of the actor who played him as the current Shang Tsung is a delightful little treat. Seriously, he was the best part of that movie.
Johnny Cage is somehow even more amazing in this game than he was in the last. Johnny meeting his younger self and slapping some sense into him is a moment I wish I could have. Older Johnny Cage is an unexpected gem of a character. He spouts movie references in the intros of his fights with his opponents. Kotal Kahn may be my favorite character, but Johnny is a very close second.
The customization options are fun. I love collecting costumes for characters in any game, and the amount of options in MK11 are vast.
The Fatalities are as awesomely gory as ever, but the Brutalities are my favorite. Ending a fight with a Brutality seems more, well, brutal than ending one with a Fatality.
Anyway, back to playing more Mortal Kombat 11 so I can unlock more skins and… um, I mean, back to work!
